Turbinate Coblation Reduction is a new way to relieve chronic nasal obstruction caused by enlarged turbinates (small structures located in the nose) and to restore normal breathing. The procedure, which is painless for most patients, can be performed at the Snoring CenterSM under local anesthesia in less than 20 minutes. Turbinate Coblation is a process that uses radiofrequency (RF) technology to remove tissue that can cause nasal obstruction.

How Turbinate Coblation works

CPAPnewimageFirst, the physician will introduce a local anesthetic into the nose. Once the nose is numb, a specialized wand is inserted into each turbinate. The tip of this device is extremely small in order to minimize any discomfort after the procedure. While the wand is being inserted, it is simultaneously removing tissue as it moves through the turbinate, causing an immediate reduction in turbinate size. Once in position, the wand is held in place for 10-15 seconds while additional Coblation therapy is applied. This therapy creates a channel inside the turbinate.

What it does

Over the next few weeks, this channel will cause the turbinate to shrink, thus relieving nasal obstruction, and in most cases, restoring normal breathing. Your physician will create one or more of these channels per turbinate, depending on the size of your turbinates.
